Because becoming a billionaire itself contributes to society’s collapse. They are opposite goals.

turtlesareneat@discuss.onlineto theyknew@lemmy.sdf.org•Perhaps people back in 1975 were too confused by this album cover to be offended...English7·1 day agoDicks were big in the 70s. It was cool to work them into art, or wear them as jewelry.
Mine went missing for a day, and then at 2am a neighbor started pounding on the door - was this our cat wailing keeping them awake?
So I climbed about 30’ up a pine tree in my boxers, in the dark, unwrapped the cat from the tree, wrapped it around my bare chest (it’s terrified fully extended claws made this a snap, right into my flesh) and down we went.
She never tried that again, but did enjoy annual escapes onto the roof until the arthritis got too bad.

Went to the mall today and one store, a toy store I think, had a big Israel flag hanging by the entrance - like I get that you have an identity at stake here but none of us want to walk under that particular flag to spend our money right now, and you could see that reflected. And that’s not anti-semitism, it’s just voting with our feet.
Next, it’d be nice to get our tax dollars to do the same thing…
Own your own consulting firm which helps this occur anyway.
But it was pre-Covid the last time I made this work, I finally got in with the idea of steady jobs - they pay you like, $2k every couple weeks just to sit in a little room all day… ok I can doomscroll in a different place for a while if you’re going to pay my bills

turtlesareneat@discuss.onlineto Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•The Futile Quest to Build a “Liberal Joe Rogan”English7·2 days agoThe GOP grew itself as the “big tent party” because it masterfully understood how to get many divergent interest groups in line. I think a lot of this just has to do with the authoritarian might that’s always been central to the Republican party, and how the liberal culture is more “your refined, college educated uncle who’d rather go get high in the garage than get involved in the fight.”
I don’t think we need one central orthodoxy, rather we need a drum being beat loudly, and no one on our side has strong arms.
Venn diagram, we need to focus on the “nazi” and “alpha male” circles which are smaller than the “little dick” circle, which is actually - gay dude here - I’ll tell you pretty big.

turtlesareneat@discuss.onlinetoUnited States | News & Politics@midwest.social•New poll shows who Dems want in 2028 — and it’s not Kamala HarrisEnglish12·2 days agoHe’s mouthy and good with the bully pulpit, which is engaging television and probably wins over hearts and minds WAY better than progressive policy (sadly).
The right person has to have the charisma AND the progressive underpinning. Style and substance.
But I would take enough charisma to shut down MAGA at this point, even if it was a bit establishment. Piecemeal it. IDK if we’ll get the style and substance candidate, or how much that will matter.

Grocery shopping yesterday we really noticed it for the first time. Things have been higher and higher for a while but now there an extra 10-30% on some goods, overnight. Gonna be a brutal year. I’ve never seen stagflation in the flesh. No one my age has.
