Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you cook when you want to impress your guests?English
5·2 days agoA pie (or tart), or a dirty beans.
Pie made with ready made pie crust. Throw in some bell pepper, ham slices, zucchini, chili, garlic (or basically whatever seems like would taste good together). Mix cream cheese and an egg, pour over the fillings, top with some pizza cheese. Once cooked, sprinkle with some herb that fits the filling or spring onion.
Dirty beans is lightly cooking a bit of onion, chili, garlic, whatever beans (in water) I happen to have, tomato sauce, ton of cumin, some other spices that seem like a good idea, topped with some sour-ish, runny cheese or feta. To make it go from basic to fancy, I use Crème fraîche instead of cheese and fresh cilantro.
Appreciate everyone who actually gave the recipe!!
Me.
I’m the crazy family member.
Depends entirely on how much you struggle. Diagnosis is useful for knowing what kind of help to get. If you don’t struggle, but only see some kind of behavior patterns that might occasionally cause problems, you can just try to address those individually.
I have a diagnosis for BPD, which was useful for getting treatment and ultimately, financial support. These days however I don’t agree with the diagnosis and rather think I’m somewhere in the BPD/C-PTSD/Autism neighborhood but I don’t really need a clinical diagnosis for any practical purposes.
These are all just words that people made up, that reflect a cluster of patterns with great variability between individuals. They’re not absolute truths. Just tools to help navigate whatever system one finds themselves in.

Suomi•Suomi on jo yhdeksättä kertaa maailman onnellisin maa!suomi
Vähemmän odotuksia, vähemmän pettymyksiä, enemmän tyytyväisyyttä siihen mitä on. Me ei ehkä olla “iloisinta” kansaa, me vaan ei olla jatkuvasti masentuneita siitä, että asiat eivät ole just täydellisesti niin kuin me halutaan. Helpompi siis vastata fiilis kyselyihin, että kaikki on “ihan ok”.
Tosin ei lähdetä sivuttamaan meidän edelleenkin verrattain hyvää valtion antamaa sosiaalista turvaa jne.

8·11 days agoYep and yep and I’ve been incredibly lucky. I help run a spirituality (Buddhism-ish) related website. I don’t have much formal training, I’ve just been a shut-in nerd for decades and picked up skills that turned out to be useful for the teacher (they tried to make a website that was total shite and I told them as much. Long story short, they hired me).
I’m actually on permanent neetbux due to mental health issues ('twas partly the treatment resistant depression that led me to look into spirituality) but I’m allowed to earn a certain amount without losing my benefits. I get paid that exact amount and I largely choose when I work and how much. From my perspective, I’m now getting paid to do the stuff I used to do as idle fancy. Which is awesome. I’m also mentally in a much better place thanks to my own practice and the community. I definitely couldn’t handle neurotypical life but at least I can do a bit of work, kinda take care of myself and not let my home devolve into a total legbeard nest. Glad to be able to help provide service to others that was helpful to me. Plus despite not having very good people skills, I’m appreciated by my boss and the community and I’m welcome to be as I am, I don’t have to mask or sell “good vibes only”.

Suomi•Ministeriö lopettaisi uskonnonopetuksen, tilalle kaikille yhteinen katsomusaine – tätä mieltä ovat puolueetsuomi
10·15 days agoJoo.
Kyllä.
Pliis.

1·17 days agoI just finally got around to watching Jojo in my starvation for a long running anime. Just about to get to episode 9 after which I hear it starts to really pick up. So far I’ve been mainly a bit confused but I did keep watching Gintama despite it taking like 50 episodes for it to click lol

2·17 days agoMy understanding is that Haki system hadn’t been developed yet when Shanks did that thing. But that’s what I meant with Oda being good at modular story telling. He consistently gave himself places to expand upon without having to do blatant retconning.
And yes. The pro-social aspects, the inclusivity, resistance to tyranny etc. but I also just adore Luffy as almost like a spiritual guide. He’s totally surrendered to pursuing his goal and is almost always in full acceptance of whatever that may lead to. And he does so with a joyful heart. And he is forgiving. There’s some Buddhist undertones there that I appreciate. I’m also just glad to see a popular show in this point in time that has a lead character like that and handles it well.

2·17 days agoYeah it’s stunning. I’ve watched the early parts a few times and just started watching again from the start with a friend who fell in love with the live action version.
It opens up even more when you have more context, even if Oda “retconned” stuff, he has always been pretty good with it. He’s like the master of modular storytelling. And you have so much absolutely amazing things ahead of you!! Stoked for you!!
Actually I am right at this very moment waiting for my friend to finish dinner so we can watch the first ep of OPLA s2 :D

2·17 days agoYeah, One Piece easily. I feel straight up privileged to have started watching it some 20 years ago and still enjoying it to this day.
Looks great! I never tried making ramen from scratch but I love to pimp up the instant noodles I like with various things.
The marinated eggs are pretty easy to make but yeah, need forethought, which tends to become an issue for me. Really like them though. Rum works well with them.
