Admittedly a lot of my surface knowledge of the character comes from Mike Duncan’s Revolutions podcast and he paints a more nuanced picture of Lenin than just ‘gross war criminal’. Anti communism is a religion… jeez ain’t that the truth. I was raised as a proud Christian conservative that bordered nazi. Took my entire 20s to unravel that mess and I’m still working at it…
I think activism is a great reality check for a lot of these online types who meme about everything. Getting a real sense of community and actually talking with in person socialists of all kinds of extremes and flavours is humbling. Protests are good for this I think, at least for me it normalised leftist thinking a lot for me. It’s hard to hate commies and anarchists when they’re marching with you for what you believe in!

Hey I remember being like that back in the day when I first started reading history seriously. I would like to think I have grown past that behaviour and thinking though.
