Agreed, I’m getting too old to keep those hours.
And on the music collection, I say keep what makes you happy but don’t let it get overwhelming. I’m content to manage a couple servers in my basement, but it’s not for everyone. What ever, enjoy the music!
Still playing, but definitely not as much as I thought I would. Tough (and well paying) day job means I can afford music and instruments without much of a thought, so I play mostly for stress relief these days: holiday concerts, musical pits, occasional jam session.
Roon server says I’m at 7,548…It’s too much, way too much.
I went to music school at that perfect time just before streaming kicked off, and a few of us traded our collections around. I probably only go through 200 albums a year really listening these days. But honestly I’m not sure I could give it up. I love sitting with the music, bringing back the memories of that person and our time together.
Plus I’d miss the ridiculous experience of hitting shuffle on the whole thing, not knowing whether the next track will be Miles Davis, Thundercat, Meshuggah, or the Berliner Philharmoniker!
Sorry, probably oversimplified there. You’re right that the term condenser just refers to the element.
I had a very similar looking Samson condenser with that shape (grill on top with the bar splitting in half) and it had the element parallel to the body of the mic. So assuming it’s similar to mine was, yes it’ll probably work fine as mounted. But I’d bet if OP tilts it “upside down” and rotates 90deg one way or another (speaking into the grill, not the bar) they’d find much better signal/noise.
It may actually help with the balance, but I think you have that mic pointed the wrong way.
Looks to me like a condenser with an element parallel to the body, it’d be better if you talk directly into the side of the mesh not the front:
Phone, left front. Wallet (including work fob) and key in right front; small flashlight and chapstick in the coin pocket; pen clipped to back right pocket.
Plus I guess not technically in my pocket, but I’ve been front horizontal carrying a leatherman (or sometimes a fixed blade with a pry bar clipped to it).
