I haven’t tried it myself but it would only be “sort of”. Their official servers use Faceit anti-cheat which doesn’t work, but community servers can also choose to use EAC which should allow Linux play

Just out of curiosity, why’d you go with emulating the PS2 over the PC version? I’ve also played around in that version and I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s the best way to experience it.
