Overseas News@aussie.zone•‘Who is going to pay us when we’re replaced by robots?’ The Indian factory workers told to film themselves for AI
2·23 hours agoTraditionally, before tax-based govts were developed, people had lots of kids not only because of lack of contraception but becaiuse they didn’t know how many of them would survive and grow to adulthood and look after the parents when they became elderly. That was welfare in poor countries. Numbers grew.
Imagine if India did what the Chinese govt did decades ago and forced couples to only have one child. It would create all sorts of problems when it comes to looking after an ageing population, not enough younger people to pay taxes and to look after the old. So it’s not absurd. Read the article.
Australia also has that challenge of an ageing population and not enough of a tax base which we counter with immigration.
I’m stopping here. Do a little research if you are truly interested.

5·3 days agoThe Asio director general ended his speech by stating he “firmly” believed that “if more Australians, not just visitors, embraced the ethos of a fair go, mutual respect and tolerance, the temperature of our security environment would be several degrees lower”.
This is a bit of a motherhood statement. He doesn’t mention the broader political and commercial influences whose interest it is to keep our society divided.

Aussie Enviro@aussie.zone•They built 100 wind turbines in Tasmania before realizing they stood in the path of a critically endangered parrot
1·3 days agoAnd I never thought of you as trying to portray such a standard. We have to work within the confines of the written word only and it can lead to misunderstandings.
Another curious tactic used is to stick a couple of decals (about a metre in diameter each) that resemble open eyes towards the base of the wind towers. This apparently puts off eagles because they don’t like to be stared at so they fly away from the towers. I have not seen any studies that completely confirm their effectiveness but I know the staring eyes were being used in Spain a few years ago along with the black blades. by one of the major power companies there.

Aussie Enviro@aussie.zone•I hate seeings these posts on shitty corporate social media
1·3 days agoWell, we’re seeing it here. Is that any reason not to hate it? Same post.
There are people out there who are so conditioned to hate snakes, spiders, etc that their first instinct is to kill them so changing the ‘role’ might help them to get some perspective. What is obvious to some is not obvious to all.

Aussie Enviro@aussie.zone•They built 100 wind turbines in Tasmania before realizing they stood in the path of a critically endangered parrot
3·3 days agoJust because we are supporters of renewable energy technologies, we shouldn’t pretend that they are perfect. No technology is and that is why we’re always improving and altering its usage as is happening with this project.
Wind turbines can and do kill flying animals, both birds and bats, though not in large numbers. That is why they have found overseas, for example, that painting one of the blades black helps animals to see the blades better and avoid getting killed.
