Sometimes it feels like the same script being deployed again and again. The “left”, which is really “center-right” spreads “freedom” and generate refugees en mass in the process, then the hard right rises to refuse those refugees created. It’s an endless loop with only bomb makers getting rich and everyone else suffers.
Indeed, American people, US government, multi-continent corporations… are different entities for sure.

US is actually a large fossil fuel exporter. i.e., it’s less about energy independence, more about corporate profit.

I think united state fundamentally only makes decisions based on domestic politics. This comes at pretty hefty cost for the allies. In the end, I’m not even sure this is good for the US itself.
No question the world is struggling with 9 billion people, and developed world is using excessive amount of resources.
The rigid definition of “countries” may stand in the way of a more collaborative world though.
