Yea okay… Not sure what the point is of not just explaining it clearly 🤔
They don’t actually explain what this is anywhere.
Yea I’m thoroughly confused, what even is this? Is it open source, code anywhere?
SorteKanin@feddit.dkto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Does the fediverse really have a civility problem and what can we do about it?English15·1 day agoIt’s weird to talk about the fediverse as a whole having a civility problem. The fediverse is a large and diverse place.
It’s like asking “do bars have a civility problem?”. And like yea, some bars do. Other bars don’t. Depends on the clientele right?
For example, on Feddit.dk we have quite a high standard of behavior and moderation is based on that. Feddit.dk is not a large instance, which probably makes it easier to manage. I would not say that Feddit.dk has a civility problem. Maybe other instances do. But then that’s a problem for those instances to solve.
So I wouldn’t say the fediverse itself has a civility problem. To me, it seems perfectly possible to moderate an instance well and preserve civil behavior. If there is a civility problem, it lies with the specific instance that has that problem and their failure to moderate that behavior.

SorteKanin@feddit.dkto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•I've honestly never quite realized up until now how utterly ridiculous it is that people (especially in the US) regularly demand that their food be chauffeured to them.English1·2 days agoWell yea but I meant for a single person. In aggregate, it still saves probably at least half of the trips.
You’re not really arguing that getting takeaway and buying food ingredients in bulk is just as bad when it comes to the amount of car trips, right? That seems ludicrous.
SorteKanin@feddit.dkto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•I've honestly never quite realized up until now how utterly ridiculous it is that people (especially in the US) regularly demand that their food be chauffeured to them.English1·2 days agoSure. But none of those things happen on a daily basis. At least, they shouldn’t with a modicum of planning. It still saves probably at least half of the trips
Perhaps you’re right, but this is what I’m most comfortable with.
The vision (which is also still WIP) right now is a platform that combines the features of Facebook, Twitter and Reddit. Something that can interface with all existing fediverse services and handle all kinds of media (posts, discussions, microblogs, pictures, videos, anything, you name it). Ideally it should also be a place where you can bring your friends list and maybe even have a personal (non-anonymous) user. Imagine something that can replace Facebook, Twitter and Reddit all in one fell swoop. That’s the general idea.
Now, that’s just the idea but a lot of it depends on execution. If you’re truly interested, I’d love to talk more on Matrix to see if there’s some shared alignment. Obviously I have a certain vision for the project so there needs to be some shared understanding of the direction. Technology-wise, the backend is Rust and the (very WIP) frontend is TypeScript/SvelteKit. But non-technical contribution can be valuable too.

You obviously buy in bulk, usually for a whole week. That’s 6/7 car trips saved.
That’s kinda the whole point of having a car, so you can transport a lot of goods home. At least, that’s the point in my country.
Måske prøv den fra Gardena? Den ser ud til at have lidt flere muligheder. Men det er ikke noget jeg selv har prøvet.

Just select the option to be reminded to renew instead of automatically renewing. You’ll get an email that reminds you to renew when the time is up, but you can just ignore it.
SorteKanin@feddit.dkto Fediverse memes@feddit.uk•How Much Each Project Gets Monthly in USDEnglish5·2 days agoYea, Python has a tendency to be fast to work on at the start, but once the system reaches a certain level of complexity, it gets unwieldy… Rust doesn’t run into the same problem, but takes a bit more up-front work on the small scale. At least that is my experience working with both professionally.
I think you can be mod even if you aren’t on the same instance, but not sure if there are some complications with that.
The sole mod seems to be MIA, perhaps someone could ask a sh.itjust.works admin to mod them
Oh wow! I was waiting for an announcement like this. I was kinda worried that nothing was gonna happen despite Viz taking over, but this is great news!
What does that say about the sorting algorithms though? Should we sort posts based on votes then, or should we sort them based on something else? Do we want the posts at the top to be the ones the hivemind agrees most with and the ones the hivemind disagrees with should disappear at the bottom?
Perhaps sorting should be based on total votes and not just downvotes? So downvoting is effectively still “voting” for it, just in a different way. I’m just spitballing here, I find the theory of sort/vote systems fascinating.
