Thank you! I’m just getting started with journaling and still have to figure out what I want and need.

Thank you for the answer!

I was just thinking about trying Joplin for Journaling. Why doesn’t it suit you?

I liked Mondly, but never managed to stick to it.

Well, I was trying to get the mailbox.org PWA to send notifications, since I couldn’t find a way to sync our family’s shared task lists in any app. That’s apparently not supported by CalDAV, the use of shared lists. It’s possible using Vikunja, though, so we can move there and sync lists via DAVx5 and Tasks.org.

Thank you for trying to help, you’re very kind. Thanks to a comment on one of my posts on Mastodon I found out that I can get browser notifications, just not from a PWA, or maybe just not from that one. I now found a hopefully better way to manage my to dos and get notifications for them.

I enables push notifications and unrestricted battery usage for Google Play Services and multiple browsers which I tested. I always used “install” to create the PWA. Nothing works and I still don’t know if it’s me or the stupid website/PWA.

I thought since I’m already switching away from Google, I could also move away from Microsoft, but whatever I try, I can’t find a replacement for To Do. We have family accounts with mailbox.org, where we can share task lists/folders, but I can’t get the PWA to send me push notifications. I can import my task folders via DAVx5, but CalDAV doesn’t work with shared folders, so I only get my personal tasks. And this is the same for all tools - either use CalDAV (no shared lists) or a web interface (no notifications). I’ve been running in circles for days and I’m very frustrated by now.

This is me trying to switch to Graphene OS. 😭
Thank you!
Thank you for your insight! Maybe we’ll do some testing. Honestly, I didn’t think it would be this difficult to replace Microsoft To Do with a European alternative. I’ve been looking through a lot of tools lately and I really like what Joplin can do. For shared lists we might end up back at our e-mail provider’s web interface without any app sync, though.

I’m struggling with a stupid edge case. I can integrate the mailbox drive using WebDAV for Joplin as you would expect, but I can’t find the right URL (if there is any) to link directly to the shared folder my partner and I have. I tried to avoid that problem by using DAVx5 to mount the mailbox drive directly on my phone (works perfectly, has access also to the shared folders), but if I link that to Joplin via the “file system” option, Joplin is thrown because apparently the file names are not just the name of the file, as expected, but include the path to the mount as well.

Thank you, that really helps.

The hosting, or specifically the joining somebody else’s hosting server, since we currently don’t host our own.

I was hoping I could use Joplin with WebDAV from mailbox.org Drive, but that doesn’t seem to work for shared folders. It’s frustrating to have to pay so much for the server hosting, but I’m considering it.

I’m still not sure if I understand how it works, but I like the name and design and will look deeper into it, thanks.

Looks nice, thanks for the heads up! We don’t have our own server, but I’ll keep it in mind.

Thanks for asking my question! A friend is using Obsidian and he said sharing lists is difficult there…
By the way, if you don’t mind self-hosting, Journiv could be an alternative. I really like it, but don’t have time to figure out how to host it right now. 😅
