Honestly I hate talking about Oct. 7th, both because it’s horrible to think about but also because it’s at the center of at least two opposing disinformation campaigns by the belligerents. Determining what actually happened and who did what is very challenging.

Regarding the killing of babies, the IDF’s policy to ignore collateral damage and even deliberately kill the Israeli hostages makes it difficult to attribute the deaths to any specific side. It may well be that Hamas killed babies but it may also be they were killed by the IDF. Perhaps both. It’s hard to trust anything that comes out of Israel since they have obstructed investigations by impartial groups like the UN. Certainly many claims by Hamas and Israeli officials have been debunked.

As far as sexual assault, it does seem it happened during the fight but I haven’t seen evidence it was systematic or even necessarily widespread. this last point might be wrong, it’s unclear so I’ll retract it for now.

This is not to say there weren’t war crimes committed by Hamas and allied groups on Oct. 7th, but since these events are currently being used as justification for an ongoing genocide, it’s important to stick to the known facts.

I was thinking just freely streaming behind you. I am not sure how this equation accounts for an object that’s incredibly long and thin but I feel confident that the longer it gets, the more drag there is, even if not much more.

Spiders fly on a strand of silk, so I think it should work. A streamer is still creating friction as the air flows by it, though you’re right that it’s narrow shape is certainly not ideal for maximizing drag.

OK but you can’t treat economists as a monolith. If you want to shame the people who did that then go ahead, but I think there’s a newer group of economists who are deconstructing the propaganda and seeking truth, and they should be encouraged.

I think people are a bit too quick to pin everything on aipac. But you don’t have a state apparatus that’s so dedicated to a policy without multiple reinforcing mechanisms. It’s also anti-Arab racism, it’s also realpolitik and imperial considerations, it’s also the fundamentalist Christian death cult, it’s also the left’s inability to organize a coherent and appealing message, it’s American apathy, fear, and so on.

Economics is a historically flawed and ideological science. But I think it’s getting better and more empirical with time. The scientific method works, economists just have the come down from their high horses and actually follow the data.

Honestly 100 doesn’t seem like that many but I’m guessing most live in and around the bigger parks like the Presidio or Golden Gate Park. Here in Sacramento I mostly see them near the rivers since that’s where natural vegetation still exists.

Either way I’m glad they can survive in cities, even if they cause trouble for people occasionally.
