  • Anxiety as a driving force isn’t really great for your health, so I would be happy to be rid of it. You should look into treating the ADHD itself, could be with a medical professional and trying if there are meds that work for you. One of my kids also has ADHD and we did find some meds for her that help after going through a few options.

You could also try controlling it yourself, this is a bit of mixed bag though and I would recommend exploring the medical options if they’re available for you.

For example, I’m quite a bit older than you and I never got it formally diagnosed, so no meds. I try to keep work and free time as separate as possible. For example during work hours my personal PC is strictly off, I do my work with another PC that only has access to my music and what is required for work, no other media that could distract me. I need to always do something, so basically the work gets done because I don’t have anything else to do. I don’t always stay on the right task, but this works well enough for me.

People and ADHD are both on a wide spectrum, so it’s always a bit of trial and error to find out what works for you

  • I have not been following PC hardware for a while, but there was a time when RAM slots and the sticks themselves were designed to be used as a pair. Could be something like that?

Also since it’s occasional, could also be corrupted OS file, harddrive/SSD read issue or even a driver issue. Have you looked what errors are in the event log with the BSODs? Is it same or similar each time or completely random?

  • Pretty sure it was the SNES Shadowrun for me. I was already familiar with Shadowrun from books and the tabletop RPG and I got a Swedish copy of it because the english version wasn’t available yet. I eventually got a used copy of the English version as well.

I did play Deus Ex at some point after and I had great time with it, but I don’t think I ever played the second game for some reason.

I recall trying the OG Syndicate game at some point as well, but I’m pretty sure that well after I had exhausted the first 2 X-com games, and I was looking for more strategy stuff. No idea really when that was, but definetely after Shadowrun.

  • You going sometime soon? Around December the temps tend to plunge and Jan-Feb can be really cold, somewhere around -40C, potentially with some wind and blowing snow making it feel even colder. Highly recommend good outside set, with winter boots, gloves and the rest of clothing meant for that sort of weather, especially if you expect you would need to be outside for a while. I like the overall type pants and winter rubber boots big enough to fit wool socks in myself. :P Might be difficult to buy good quality stuff if you live somewhere much warmer. Probably worth asking whoever is hosting you for some help there. They might even have extra sets available already. Houses up there are typically very warm, so nothing special needed for inside use. Otherwise maybe a camera that is good in low light if you like to take pictures. Should get some good northern lights and stuff if you’re up there a whole month.
