  • The idea that slavery, particularly the way it was conducted in the Americas, was mostly acceptable at the time was always a myth. There were always those who saw it as reprehensible and many who were swayed once seeing it in practice. There were even die-hard racists who viewed Africans as subhuman who found the treatment of slaves disgusting.

  • Followed up with “You people believe in surprise more than we do!” Fucking incredible. I don’t know what could have been said to make that exchange more awkward and uncomfortable. Not only was that some shit from 90 years ago, for which they were fucking nuked (twice!), he had to throw in some racism as well. I try to minimize the clips I watch of that clown speaking while still following his actions, but I had to see if he actually made that wild comment, and it was worse than reported.

  • It is interesting to think that societies would not only (forcibly) include specialized individuals necessary for civilization in frontline combat but also provide them with little training, equipment, or screening for aptitude. If i were to set aside my own opinions about war and forcing people to participate in it, it would simply be wiser to not only have a specialized class of soldiers, but to also eliminate individuals not suited to the task. Militaries into the modern era also have the issue through nepotism in the officer corps and incentivising the most impoverished to join the enlisted, they have the benefit of significantly larger numbers (total population), mechinization, and long range engagement. Even the most catastrophic combat in the modern era does not have the same (immediate) death toll.

  • Elections can not be delayed, nor can the federal government dictate to states how to administer elections (outside violations of the constitution, which are adjudicated by the courts, not executive orders). The constitution outlines the years in which elections for federal office are to take place, federal statute sets the date, and state laws cover the administration of the election. In order to do what is described in this article there would need to be a constitutional amendment(s) allowing changes to the set years for elections to the house and senate, for the house and senate to propose/pass a change of the statute signed off by the president, and then to either have the states all change their laws or have a case make it through courts and receive a judgement before the election that states not requiring voter I.D. costs the constitution. This is simply not possible within the time constraints, if at all. While the fascists certainly want a coup, this is not the route. Their move will be drastically more violent or continue on the slow, but escalating, course it is currently taking.
