I went from fearing the worst in reddit to wishing the worst in reddit.
Knowing that people can rebuild another platform at a whim, as such the community here, restores my faith in humanity.
It’s beautiful to watch Reddit burn, I’ve been going on it near daily for about 10 years now, it was my morning news paper, and now it’s becoming more obsolete than ever.
I give thanks to all the rebels, developers/programmers, innovative thinkers and the people who are truly serious about restoring the true beauty of the internet.
Fuck Reddit and fuck its malware and the dystopia it has become. Its a beautiful dumpster fire, and we all here have the best seats in the house 🍿
It used to just be a regular forum for people to post and discuss. It was special because of the upvote/downvote karma system. The user count got money hungry people’s attention, it went corporate and it became a place to take in revenue.
Now people have learned from it, and used it to create their own forums based on the structure of Reddit.
The thing that made Reddit special was it was everything you wanted all in one place, instead of having multiple forums on multiple different websites for multiple different interests, it was all on Reddit.
Now we have the fediverse, it’s multiple different websites, that follow the same principles, and they all work harmoniously with one another.
Just like nature finds a way, genuine humanity finds way too, even on the internet.
We are entering a new era of the internet. I think much of these once big sites are just going to be flooded with malware. And website to me that prompts you to subscribe to read the rest, or forces you to see ads, is malware to me.
Remember on the old computers when you could barely do anything because of malware? So it became a useless piece of junk.
That’s what is happening to these websites, they are becoming cluttered with junk, while the website is developed around keeping distracted minds attentive.
I think people are becoming aware of their mindless scrolling, and they are realizing the junk they are being fed.
Over here on these sites there is far more constructive conversation and far more interesting posts that I don’t need to scroll past 10 different ads to get to.
As people get smart and identify garbage social media, we will develop a smarter more realized spaces to mingle.
I feel like it’s going to gain a lot of popularity among people who haven’t really used it in the past and have yet to discover it. While for us long-term users we are going to move on.
The general public does not understand what an API is, and does not really understand the changes Reddit is going through. As long as they download Reddit’s app, they will get sucked in without.
