Supposedly Trump wanted to sue people for defamation until his lawyers informed him that would mean the Epstein files would have to be made public to prove it wasn’t true.

what if they just come up with something
I think that was their original plan based on how they campaigned. But now I think the GOP wants to have their cake and eat it to… meaning getting rid of Trump but keeping his base. Trump tanking USA’s economic prospects was not part of the plan.
Canconda@lemmy.catoUnited States | News & Politics@midwest.social•With Stephen Colbert and ‘The Late Show’ gone, is the late-night talk show a thing of the past?1·14 hours agoI wouldn’t be surprised we see an independent late night media company. Stephen pointed out that the business model for late night shows isn’t really working anymore.
There was a fake news that Stephen and Rachel Maddow would start a show. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/new-show-colbert-maddow/

The fact that Alberta has half as many cases indicates something is not being managed well.
My anecdotal experience with family who moved to AB is that Danielle Smith supporters lean heavily anti-vax/science.
(Replying to you cuz I pre-emptively blocked buddy below due to his post history indicating he’s insufferable.)

I don’t recall it being a thing back then but I must have been mistaken. Part of the reason I never migrated was how similar lemmy was to redesigned reddit.

I hope they bring this up during her Eulogy.

Canada has always been in bed with the USA. USA funds Israel down to their universal healthcare.
Truth & Reconciliation wise… I think Canadians need to acknowledge that our quality of life was built on the very injustices we’re waking up to.
Our gov’t does nothing for Palestine because they know that Canadians will care more about the negative effects to their standard of living cause by a fallout with the USA, than Palestinians.
I don’t know what Canada could do that would meaningfully benefit Palestinians, that wouldn’t also aggravate the USA.
I think in the long term Canada undermining the USA’s economic dominance is probably the only thing we can do unless we’re willing to endure some suffering ourselves.

Thanks! Not what I’m looking for sadly. I like to engage in political discourse and a lot of the replies I get aren’t worth reading.
It stops replies from showing up in your inbox… I know reddit has notifications but I use old. layout so I never saw them.
The one thing I miss from reddit was the ability to disable inbox replies.

Always. Always. Always.
I’m not huge on holding people legally accountable for the actions of others; but I do think that adults who ignore children telling they’re being abused are also guilty on some level of abuse.
My former bully had been creating deepfakes with social media and photos he’d taken at youth events. Probably would have gone on much longer but he tried to catfish them and was caught.

Yea seeing the mentality of the 2 commentors who support LBC has me questioning if it’s actually activism or just standard attention seeking behaviour.
Canconda@lemmy.cato Canada@lemmy.ca•More than 100 candidates — most in Canadian history — to run against Poilievre in byelection42·4 days ago-
I said legitimate opponent. Meaning she seems like a good person for the job. Not that she was a serious contender with a chance to win.
-
She’s an independent not an LPC or CPC member so you’re comparing apples to oranges.
-
Name recognition is the single most important factor in being elected. It’s factually incorrect to suggest that there would be no difference between a few independent candidates and over 100.
At the end of the day what does LBC stand for if they’re undermining legitimate independent candidates?

I think American progressives need to focus on repairing their democracy before expecting it to reflect their values.
For a decade I’ve seen this pattern of progressives putting the carriage before the horse. You guys get lost in the issues and forget that you need to actually win the election for any positive change to materialize.
Lots of Do Nothing Cunts in the DNC… but this backlash against AOC is both misplaced and unproductive. You guys made this mistake with Harris and now your economy is likely permanently reduced.
If Harris had won at least you guys could have protested this issue without having the president sic ICE and active military on you.
