I’ve just created a community, to that end, that I’m hoping to start fleshing out when I get home tonight - finding and linking to like-minded communities is a really good idea for that. Thank you for that idea!

Oh. Yeah there’s… there’s something special about a fuzzy toilet seat.
Special, and unnaturally warm.
lol. Yeah no y’all aren’t wrong by any stretch, and I doubt they’d really get rid of a lot of those power mods but the smaller subs? Sure. Also, give one of the regular people power-modding power and they could, theoretically, have normal function resuming inside a week. It’d still be a huge mess, though.
Either way, I’m sure there’s an admin script available to mass-remove or ban, though that’d be a really drastic move on their part. The bluff call’s far more likely. Be interesting to see what they do regarding the large subs and their mods, though.
If it is deliberate, I’m pretty sure that’d be a call-our-bluff sort of situation and they’d end up with a longer blackout as a result, at least until the majority of participating mods are replaced/banned.
I’d assumed a minor reverse-reddit-hug, personally - there are a lot of news stories on this today with a lot of links to reddit. Either way, a day in and I’m here and kinda loving it, despite it being a bit … wonky on posting today with all us refugees.
I really love that idea.
Regarding ads, I almost always turn on an ad blocker because the ads I see are over the top and either obstructive or somehow offensive, so figuring out a way to monetize that isn’t also horrible is kind of a delicate balance. Like, no autoplaying video/audio, for one.
Tip jars, things like possible user customizations allowable for those that donate above a certain threshold (so like, specific color callouts for donators of $x in the last month, or the ability to add highlights inline in comments, or something) and other incentives other than, y’know, getting your average user to understand that servers and time are things that need money to keep going. That said, that stat page would be super helpful on the main instance page, like maybe over on the side.
Same. I’m just jazzed to be here, right now.
I’d been following TST since it first popped up in the news, and eventually just decided to join. I love the community and am glad to see some of that porting over here. Hail yourself :)
It’s just something to get the hang of. Currently somewhat confusing, but not insurmountable. It does feel a lot like Reddit did some thirteen years ago. This is a nice blend of modern and easy to use, and has a whiff of my early days on the internet (bb’s, forums, etc) without measuring internet speeds in kbps, which is nice.
I belonged, until recently, in a really lovely private community over on that other place, and … I’m loving what I’m seeing so far. It’s a nice take, and feels a lot more like what I wanted out of those other places.
It really does feel a bit like the early days, for me. Bunch of strangers talking to each other in, generally, good faith. 'Course there were also tons of pop-ups, the banner would’ve taken an hour to download at that resolution… I like this more. lol
