This is just like that time they made a constitutional monarchy in France. I predict that the Manjaro owner will be too greedy like the King was and it will just end up in a republic (hard fork with name change).

That said, we have seen successful forks like this lately. CoMaps is a good example.

Linux@programming.dev•GNU Guix 1.5 Brings Plasma 6.5, GNOME 46, Rootless Mode, and More
5·2 months agoYeah, I think that’s what that means. How it works is that you will reconfigure your system, which will load the new version into kexec. Then you can simply launch
reboot --kexecto switch to your new system, including the new kernel.

Linux@programming.dev•GNU Guix 1.5 Brings Plasma 6.5, GNOME 46, Rootless Mode, and More
15·2 months agoHey, Guix contributor here. We actually already have Gnome 48 almost done. Keep in mind that Guix is a rolling release so there is no need to wait a year to get the updates. I think we’re on pretty good pace to catch up with upstream before next year. Still, it takes a lot of effort to package gnome, especially with the growing reliance on systemd!

Linux@lemmy.ml•What you do with your windows button on your keyboard?
2·4 months agoThe wikipedia page you linked says otherwise.
On keyboards that lack a physical Meta key, its functionality may be invoked by other keys such as the Windows key or Macintosh’s Option key.[4] However, software often provides another workaround, such as using the Alt key (which does not exist on the Knight keyboard), or using the Esc key as a prefix (e.g., in Emacs). Because of these workarounds, the need for Meta – despite being the most-used additional modifier key – was less than for other modifier keys. It is more common today to use the Windows key to emulate the Super key.

In civilized country (France), adults are responsible for their own security. You are only responsible for children to put their seatbelts on. Also what kind of condescending word is “civilized countries” just say the country you’re thinking about.

GNU Savannah and old thinkpads that can run with fully free software.
