This is what happens when someone looks at the surface of issues and then becomes incredibly passionate about it.

You need to listen to people that have lived through many, many years of middle east conflicts. Talk with people who have been entrenched over there. Become friends with middle easterners who have moved over here during the 80s and 90s (as adults, not the children of those that came over) and started businesses and ask about their experiences.

You don’t want to hear about how things are nuanced, but you look at things in such a black and white manner, which is typical of those in your age group becoming interested in politics.

You are still being incredibly naive.

It has nothing to do with it benefiting me - or specifically the US as the case with Israel goes, or even the party or the politician. As I tried to describe in my original comment, it is a strategic move for GLOBAL PEACE - not just the US. This is not only about US intervention, which it is clear you have a lot of thoughts about, but also about the ports and access to resources both in and out for all of the countries in that region, and militaries of all countries. And destroying our only allyship in that region (not just us, but the other countries that have maintained their stance with Israel), maintains the ability to keep a foothold in that region.

If someone just shot a child in front of me, would I give them bullets? If they controlled the only access to all of the resources (oil, water, food, etc) that would cause my other allies to die without during times of crisis, I would absolutely consider it. That does not mean it would come without limitations.

For you to still think this way after it being explained to you shows how shortsighted and limited you are thinking.

From the rest of your comments, it’s clear that you are very interested in politics and learning a lot, which is good! And you’ve gotten to a lot of topics, also good. But it seems like you have gotten to the surface level issues and become very passionate about them and it’s that way or the highway instead of looking any deeper.

You’ve admitted that you are young and haven’t been around for large scale issues and deep seated treaties and ally-ships that lead to the development of global political issues. It is incredibly understandable that given your age and experience you’ve summed up your decision into what you’ve currently seen in the news and perhaps the few bullet-point-history issues you’ve read up on.

The issues going on with Israel are enormously complex and are not as simple as who’s land it is, who is keeping who away, and who is committing genocide. Yes, it is horrible, and it would be ideal if our political leader could step up and call out that country for those actions. The unfortunate reality from a geopolitical perspective and from the strategic perspective of being a world leader that needs to think many, many steps ahead is that the middle east is a very hostile area, and Israel is very strategically placed to not only have an ally, but also to keep key ports open - both for economic and military reasons.

Making a statement against the actions of Israel would have been detrimental to future global peace options. Instead, Biden can work with Netanyahu behind the scenes without making an official statement.

What about when wearing (really good) noise cancelling head phones? Everything you’ve mentioned is when there is some sort of noise going on, but it’s it also happening with everything cancelled out? A few people have pointed out Auditory Pareidoilia which is your brain trying to find words/pattern/meaning in the noise it is hearing, but is it also doing that when the only sound it can hear is it’s own blood whooshing though your veins, which it should be used to? What about in a sensory deprivation tank?

There’s Hearing - which is what the all the tiny bits of your ears connected to the nerves do, then there’s Perception - which is how your brain interprets the information it receives from the nerves connected to your ears and puts it back together. Basically, your brain is working overtime to try to figure out why you are listening to the noise you are listening to. As long as it’s only happening in those situations described and, as others have said, it’s not voices telling to do anything.

I just tried looking for you, and the most up to date I could find was for 2017. That’s disappointing, but slightly out of date is better than nothing.

The only reason it hasn’t caught on is because they are very difficult to catch (spear) and even more difficult to prepare (venom glands). They are unbelievably delicious, but even so, I’m not going to trust a chef a don’t know to be sure he didn’t pierce one of those glands while preparing it. I’ll trust myself or one of my friends that I no for 100% certain can do it right. So even though a handful of restaurants were offering it in the Keys and Miami, you’ll really see people catching it themselves and preparing it just to be sure.

“If every person that ate fish was out there…” exactly - they purchase fish caught commercially because either they don’t know how to catch their own fish or they don’t have access to catch their own fish (access either with time, money, or physically). Commercial fishing solves that by precisely doing it “at scale a lot more efficiently” as you pointed out and ships the fish to where people will purchase it.

OP didn’t specify commercial fishing. What about traditional fishing practices, or a singular fisher catching for himself/family?

Completely depends on the project. For general, everyday work, I’ll go out for a day or two once every two or three weeks. For something that needs more detail or collaboration, I’ll go out for a week and then not go back for a month or five weeks. If I’m working on a project outside of my normal office (I mentioned Guam and Amsterdam, but I’ve had projects elsewhere, too), I’ll work from home while I can and then travel there for two to three weeks and during that time I wouldn’t travel to my actual office for months.

Way back in college (20ish years ago) I had a friend that was living on the Illinois/Indiana boarder. He lived in Indiana but went to college in Illinois, so he was going to school in one time zone and working in another. To make matters worse, in those days Indiana had some counties that observed daylight savings and some that didn’t. So he had to keep track of what shift he was on for work in his own county and if it was daylight savings or not, and in case he was making plans with any friends in other counties or just going to stores or appointments or anything, and what times he had to go to class in the other time zone. He says there were days he would show up places three hours late even though he only lived 20 minutes away because he didn’t realize time had sprung forward and he had his watch set on the wrong state.

This was before smartphones, and I think the state has done away with that partially observing the time switch thing.

Personally, I’m a SuperCommuter and commute long distances for work, but only occasionally. So I’ll live on the West Coast but my office is on the East Coast, so I think in office time. For me, 4am is 7am because that’s what time it is for the rest of my team. Occasionally I’ll have to set my internal clock to Guam Time or Amsterdam Time for a couple weeks at a time until a project is done, and it makes it much easier when I fly out there because my brain is already on that rhythm.

The article says “for individual therapy”, so Russia is likely working on the same personalized “vaccines” that other researchers have been working on for quite some time - ones that utilize the individual patient’s immune system to attack the specific cancer. Not something that everyone would go out and get immunized against. This isn’t mind-blowing, but if you were Putin wouldn’t you want to put it some positive news right now too?

Where I grew up it was k-2: primary, 3-5: elementary, 6-8: middle, 9-12: high.

Where I moved after college had primary, intermediate, and high; elementary, intermediate, and high; elementary, junior high, and high; all combinations, but I didn’t know the grade levels.

I have not seen any that are begging for clothes as if they are completely out of clothes. More of a “we accept donation in the form of …” And then list of things, one of which is clothes. As in, if you are going to get rid of your clothes, bring them here and we can put them to good use. Textile recyclers have cropped up as a response to this and are helping tremendously, a lot of people just do not know about them as much yet. They even take items that people wouldn’t even think to take for donation, like of towels and wash cloths, under garments, etc. some municipalities (for example, the one I live in) require residents to compost and textile recycle with the city facility and those items are not allowed in the landfill.

Ok, great - in the meantime it would be great if people sought out sustainable fabrics, because banning unsustainable fabrics is going to take a long time.

Also, let’s say one or a handful of countries does that. There’s still Shein and all the other companies one can buy cheap clothes from overseas that won’t use sustainable products and will still be the cheapest option. It’s best to be mindful and put your dollar towards the companies that are choosing to do the right things without a regulation forcing them to.

It’s also about people thinking when they get tired of clothes thinking “oh, I’ll just donate it” or when they want to get something new so they want to get rid of something first. The fast fashion industry encourages changing up style and keeping up with trends, which increases donations. Well, those donations need to go somewhere, and people don’t think about where it ends up.

Being more thoughtful about maintaining one’s clothes, mending them, using sustainable fabrics, and going with classics that won’t go out of style instead of trends greatly eases the burden on the charities accepting the donation of the clothes. If the charities don’t accept the donation, the clothes will simply go to the landfill, which is a whole other issue.
