There’s some unrest because the Open Collective Foundation is stopping.
Don’t worry, we use Open Collective Europe as a donations platform, they’re going nowhere.
We’ve added some donation platforms, so if you would like to support us running our .world servers, you can do so here:

I think Reddit gold can be benign, but let’s not exploit FOMO plz. That’s how we got loot boxes and micro payments.
How to do “Reddit gold” on Lemmy, in a non-exploitive and ethical way? That would be the rub.
The real danger isn’t on Lemmy.World, where I think the money would go where intended. The real danger is incentivizing people to spin up small instances in the hopes of collecting.
Great point, this will happen instantly.
That won’t work. I have 340k users on my servers and it just covers the running cost. So with a 100 user instance you would get peanuts.
I guess the cross server implementation would be difficult. If you buy credits on lemm.ee, and gild a lemmy.ml user, who honors it to… not show you ads?
I guess it’s mostly just a decoration thing to support the comment/post and the server. Still, which server displays which awards could get thorny.
I would say, through activity, not through paying. Then for activity they will get rewarded.
