Our mini split just died and we need to get a quote for a new one. Does anyone have a good company they have used? I think we will need a 3 head unit. We live in the twin cities
Mr. Cool is DIY.
Our current system was DYI and it’s broken now. I know it isn’t to code. Not sure if it’s related.
I would prefer to have something professional installed for the warranty.

The very best is Mitsubishi. By far. They’re the Toyota of mini split AC. Super efficient, dead silent, bullet proof, and every hvac guy knows how to work on them.
-I’ve bought and used a lot of mini splits for my business.
I recommend doing 3 single head units. Each one can operate at peak efficiency, and they are baseline more efficient too with greater modulation capacity.
I’m in MN too and have been leaning toward a Gree Sapphire setup or an air-to-water heat pump with a backup boiler. There’s a lot of different kinds though, are you trying to meet your entire house load with the system?
Our house has steam heat and no internal vents. It is over 100 years old so we need to make some compromises for some things. We will need the minisplit for our entire cooling / AC system. If we can get one that works well enough I would love to reduce our gas bill in the winter.
Our current broken system is 5 head but we think we will replace with a 3 head system. Remove the unit from the basement and main floor bathroom but keep the three in the offices / bedrooms. Most places seem to be selling a Mitsubishi system but that is just based on some simple googling.
I think if you get the right mini-split system you should be able to meet your house’s full heating and cooling needs, but you’ll want to get with someone who can advise further. A top-tier Mitsu system should meet your needs I would think, but it won’t be that cheap. Pro install will be in the vein of ~20k.
Yeah I figured it would be expensive. I think it be worthwhile in the long run. Especially if I can get some of those rebates and refunds for using heat pumps. Do you have any places you recommend?
I’d advise you to find Mitsubishi Diamond installers and get a few quotes: https://www.mitsubishicomfort.com/find-a-contractor
I’m well north of you, so I don’t have any relevant recommendations unfortunately… And if it was me I’d be installing the system myself anyhow lol. Seriously consider doing a few single-head units over another multi-split. It’ll cost a bit more, but if any part of the system fails you will still have partial heat/cooling, and 1:1 pairings on the units allow each one to operate at full efficiency. Whenever you do a multi-split you lose efficiency for each had you add, and add complexity to your design too. One of those branch boxes is full of connections that could fail and leak refrigerant that would damage your system.
Thank you. This is great advice
