And now they don’t play music at all. If you don’t count the MTV Classic channel.

No doubt. He either released himself or produced multiple of my favorite albums.

Also a pedophile, but one we mostly overlook because he made some great songs and was awesome in a muppet movie.

edit- lol yep. People hate when you point out this one is a pedo. He gets a free pass because of his awesome music. Which, admittedly, i still listen too as well.

I have looked into this, he is certainly not a serial pedophile or serial rapist by any stretch. The single account that seems credible does not feel that she herself is a victim. The only other person with an account that paints him as any sort of predator is basically regarded as not credible, from what I’ve read. Any accusation will make a celebrity problematic to a certain extent of course, my instinct is always to side with a victim telling their story, but I don’t feel that bad about enjoying his music given the nature of the accusations. As contrasted by basically every time I hear a Michael Jackson song at this point.

His personal beliefs and actions aside, he did some real good for queer folk, so at least there is some kind of positive to associate. I’ll reiterate though that it is very unfortunate that there is an accusation at all and I certainly take it into consideration when listening now.

*Edited in some additional context and put “serial” before the word “rapist”

She may not feel like a victim but if she was underage then it shouldn’t make him less guilty. I’m unfamiliar with the case you’re referring to.

Not to condone what he did, but there is a clear distinction between being attracted to a 13 year old girl, and being attracted to an actual prepubescent girl, you know, the latter being the kind actual pedophiles prey upon.

I feel dirty typing the above, but what’s fair is fair.

Yes, of course that’s a crime, and it’s disgusting. But it’s not pedophilia.

Think setting a house on fire vs setting a house in fire with a family inside. Different crimes.

Yeah because clearly there’s a huge difference between 12 and 13, we all know girls reach puberty on their 13th birthday.

              Fucking pedo apologist.

Good thing you’re not a lawyer or a judge. This kind of conversation has been done over and over and over again ad nauseum, so I won’t engage with you in this respect. Think whatever you want. I know what I’m talking about, and I know how to think with my brain while setting my feelings aside.

They don’t want to use their brains. They just want to be outraged and mad at others.

One of my favorite quotes of all time came from a psychiatrist, speaking on Mel Gibson’s famous drunk driving tirade:

“You can’t pour vodka on a turnip and have it say anti-semitic remarks.”

However, Bowie claims it was a stage persona. Why he decided on a fascist for the persona is a decent question on its own, but I don’t think “because cocaine” is a good explanation by itself.

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Thin_White_Duke

The Thin White Duke was the persona and character adopted by the English musician David Bowie for public appearances in the mid-1970s.

        […]

The Thin White Duke became a controversial figure due to ostensibly pro-fascist statements made by Bowie in press interviews during this period. Soon after making the comments, Bowie claimed that they were “theatrical” remarks made in character and did not reflect his actual views.
