Would be kinda cool if there was a system to donate money to a magazine and then have that revenue automatically get split between highly ranked content of that magazine.

Get money involved you get cheating involved.

People already cheat the reputation system by boosting their own low-effort posts and they don’t even gain anything from doing it.

Then you have to dedicate those donated resources to maintaining vote integrity and away from maintaining servers.

I come from reddit, where all of my content is automatically upvoted once by my account. I manually do the same on kbin because I genuinely like my own content. It’s not cheating to like your own content.

That said, I agree with your point about money.

        Currently upvotes don’t effect reputation.
        Boosts do.

A person can at present type “kjfhaskl;jf” in 600 thread in a throwaway magazine they made special for the purpose and self boost every instance and appear to have a higher reputation than someone who gets 1042 upvotes, 62 downvotes, and zero boosts.

Yeah it’s fine to like yourself (and eventually what factors into reputation will be fixed) but I still consider Reputasturbation to be counter to the spirit of what a reputation score (such that it is at all) is useful for.

Honestly if someone is so desperate to feel special that they’re willing to go to such ridiculous lengths for reputation points, I say have at it. It’s no skin off any of our backs.

It undermines the legitimacy of the system.

I had to go through 4 pages to find out you were an actual asshole and not just someone who got brigaded.

Would have been nice to know at a glance.
