I got put on Panadol osteo for chronic pain. 8 tablets a day. Did nothing for pain, but give me epic diahrrea. Stopped taking it when I got out of hosp. Unfortunately everything else has intolerable side effects (breathing difficulty, extreme dizziness etc).
I’ve been reading the reddit for sciatica. The untreated suffering is terrible. 😔 I’m lucky, I’m going to be better in 2 weeks, there are people who are long term disabled by pain, young people, and they get no relief.
Doctors are too scared to prescribe. But the problem is that people genuinely in need are left to suffer and have their ability to function affected because of ineffective pain managment. Surely there is a better way, eg to risk assess a patient, prescribe smaller pack sizes etc. It’s not right that people cannot get their medical conditions treated in the age of modern medicine due to some blanket idea that everyone will misuse the medication. There is currently a government inquiry into women’s pain that is taking submissions: https://www.health.vic.gov.au/public-health/inquiry-into-womens-pain-submissions
That isn’t right. I don’t know how to make them hand over the stuff that might work but just Panadol is bullshit. And “might” it is because you’ve got to try it to know… duh
Two and a half weeks of panadol and I think I am habituated. 🤬 And it’s just fucking panadol, nothing worth this mild groggy headache.
On a positive note sciatica is slowly getting better, with lots of rest I am comfortable.
About 20 years ago when I had my wisdom teeth out they sent me home with codeine. I didn’t need it but I was mellow for 4 days straight.
Now days if you have pain they tell you to just take panadol. BUT I’VE HAD THE GOOD STUFF. PANADOL DON’T WORK

They don’t give codeine any more? When did that change?
A few years ago it was changed to prescription only. Used to be able to buy over the counter.
Oh I don’t know if they still give them out it’s just back then they used to give them out like lollies.
I for one quite enjoy lollies.
the hospital gave me one endone and I basically had to stay there the whole 6 hours it was effective. Went home with nothing.
it seems to me unless you are dying patients get nothing

To be honest ibuprofen might be better for sciatica. Or a combination of ibby + panny.
