Posy Simmonds makes history as first Brit to win coveted comics award
Interesting, while her (obviously deliberately) unspectacular style is not really my cup of tea, I can only respect someone who wins the Grand Prix de la ville d’Angoulême.
Her English-version Gemma Bovary book was not just a cool, innovative work, but it also helped me make a significant breakthrough in my French learning.
Unusually, it combined typical BD panels with medium-length text passages. The panels would be sprinkled with easy/medium-hard French, but then the passages would fully explain what was going on. I’ve never quite seen that before in any learning medium, and *knock on wood* I’ll make a post about it one day.
