Tried to submit this post but it gets filtered by the automod so posting here for now.
Posting this from an alt because I’m still locked out of my account.
About an hour ago, we went ahead with the changes on r/MildlyInteresting following overwhelming support from our community. The idea was to go public again, but designate the subreddit as NSFW with a bigger focus on suggestive looking fruits and whatnot.
I was preparing the sub to go live, but just after I switched it to NSFW, I was logged out of my account on every single platform and locked out. I can successfully reset my password, but it will nevertheless not let me login.
Following this, another mod posted our update instead. Right after, the u/ModCodeofConduct account removed the post and flipped the sub back to restricted instead of public. Then, the second moderator was also logged out of their account and locked out. Other mods tried to re-approve the post, one of them was promptly logged out and locked out as well.
A few minutes after, the entire team was removed from the subreddit without any prior communication of any kind. As it stands, at least three of us are literally locked out of our Reddit accounts and the other mods were only removed from the sub.
I honestly don’t even have words for this situation right now. No communication, no attempt to seriously answer any of our questions we asked in ModMail, but still going in and removing our posts, literally locking us out of our accounts, removing the entire moderation team, and entirely ignoring the 40,000 people who voted to either take the sub back private, or open it with new rules.
The only thing I can say is that I’m incredibly disappointed and disheartened that the Reddit Admins believe this is the correct way to act.
Why people are fucking around with reddit still, I can’t even…
Do we expect that suddenly they are going to turn into sweethearts? Even if they did, it would be the most disingenuous thing ever, as pretty clearly Reddit and their executive/board are cockroaches.
It’s not about pursuing Reddit to take back the API pricing, at this point people are aware that that’s not gonna happen. Mods also know that if they keep the subreddit private, they’ll soon be removed. I think it’s smart that there is NSFW content in a sub that frequently is shown on r/all. NSFW subs don’t have advertisements, and this will drive away investors.
But yeah, at some point, mods should look for alternatives and just give up IMO. Stop using Reddit altogether.
It’s all about fucking with them. Yeah, they can pull the plug at any time. But the longer it drags out, and the more of their own rules they have to change/break along the way, the worse position they end up in.
Fuck spez, don’t make it easy. Make them play the heavy. Make them do it in a way they can’t pretend is justified.
IMO it’s good to degrade the Reddit experience so that people who are indifferent or haven’t been aware of the protest will have to take note and will be more inclined to explore alternatives.
As long as Apollo works i will go to watch the flames burn but make no mistake i am sticking with lemmy. (Though i might check out kbin because the nicer interface)
I think the main goal for us now is to get as much people to move to Lemmy. And then we can create a community here.
Coming from a guy who migrated from Pikabu to Reddit after a similar exodus.
Just leave Reddit, its a dumpsterfire. Help us build an alternative!
Oh I’m out, been running an instance for two years now 😉
I only still catch up with the situation to help people migrate over here heheAnd it’s good that you do. I took a look at some posts today after all the hubbub regarding the John Oliver posts. I wanted to see the frontpage but it wasn’t particularly interested. However, several threads had people saying “yes Reddit is being greedy, but what’s the alternative?”. I didn’t realize so many people were still unaware of Lemmy, Mastodon, kbin, etc.
You were unaware? Shoot, Lemmy has like 1/100,000th the user base of Reddit. Of course the vast majority of the public has no clue. I searched Google and Reddit for a Reddit alternative on and off for months before finally hearing about Lemmy two weeks ago maybe?
I do my best to share lemmy, on reddit, in askreddit i made a post asking why everyone doesnt just switch to lemmy
I didn’t know about any of the fediverse before all this.
So now they are just completely removing mod teams and banning mods. What a shitshow.
I’m hoping people will leave when their favourite app no longer works on July 1. Maybe some of the app developers will move over to Lemmy.
I’m so glad Sync is coming to Lemmy
Yeah, I’m so excited for sync for reddit, I’ve used sync for close to a decade now, and how it works just is what I expect from an app :p So it will be great to have it for lemmy, it will probably be what gets me from kbin over to lemmy as well.
They are
I’m hyped for Sync coming to Lemmy! Also Thunder looks really promising though it’s just prototype phase now.
It’s restricted right now. Most recent post is 10 days ago.
The fascists are all coming out to reveal themselves.
Not really, they’re hiding behind a “bot” named Modcodeofconduct or some hypocritical shit like that.

Interesting, unfortunate stuff.
Please tell me. I don’t want to open reddit links lol
Edited!
I agree with a prior poster that very few of them there know anything about lemmy. I was recently banned there and stumbled upon lemmy. As a former mod there I know that I could get many to migrate but have lost the ability to post there. Anyone have any ideas how to get a reddit account unbanned other than the usual appeal process.
All I’ve seen from you here is constantly struggling to start up right wing communities. Probably would be best if you didn’t help anyone else migrated here
This place is about free speech and options. I get it…u don’t like his politics, but we were all sharing this place and all are welcome.
Honestly, it’s not the politics as much as misinformation and dog whistles that I don’t like.
You can’t have a discussion around those because none of it is ever introduced or supported in good faith.

Good point. Why have a place for all points of view. Much better to have an echo chamber
Man it must be jarring leaving reddit and not having an army of bots/trolls re-enforcing your cognitive bias.
Excellent point. Let’s make lemmy a one voice, one opinion paradise. Just like any tolatarian govenment that we all love. And remember that anyone who disagrees with us is bad. Interesting how some so much fear open discussion with those who hold opinions different than there’s. Not surprising why people on the left despise debates of the issues.
Is that why you’re aggressively removing comments that don’t conform to your opinions? Everyone see’s through conservative’s fake “debate us” talking point. Ya’ll run the hell away from every single argument that you can’t strawman or whatabout.
Have fun getting your reality check. Outside Reddit/Twitter the majority of people don’t agree with you.
I agree most social platforms are leftist hive mind wastelands. What is funny is how 99% isn’t enough for the leftist. They must eliminate all debate. But if I couldn’t defend my position in a debate I guess I would just call the other guy names. So much better to live in the hive and never have to think for yourself
So go back to reddit than lol. Your community you moderate is 50% removed comments. You’re a hypocrite and you’re wrong. If you were really open to debate you wouldn’t be desperately trying to insulate yourself from other peoples arguments.
Cognitive dissonance is a hellova drug. Thanks for being bleating proof that reddit’s right wing spaces were nothing but a house of cards for mean kids like you who only pretend to play nice with others.
