telegram is indeed a peculiarity in the modern technological scene, as the article puts it, at first i was a little disappointed that telegram doesn’t follow the traditional oss path, with all the related challenges and benefits, but over time, i thought, telegram probably has a cocnrete plan, and it’s successful obviously
maybe telegram deliberately chose this on-the-edge position (not fully open source, but not completely proprietary; not fully transparent, but also clearly provides some insight; not completely ad-free, but also not excessively commercialized), and it’s a part of what makes it so successful: combining the best parts of both “sides”, so to speak idk 🤷♀️
