what’s the difference between kbin and lemmy? if i go here kbin isn’t on the list, so is kbin like it’s own thing? still kinda trying to figure this out lol

    kbin is a different link aggregation software, that is also federated with activity pub. this means the two are largely compatible, and content is shared between the two (and to the rest of the fediverse). join lemmy will point you to lemmy instances, because the site exists specifically to get you to join lemmy. kbin has a similar site i’m sure, but don’t know it. really, its more a matter of picking the one you prefer the UI of, as you should be able to join communities hosted in either software.

    They are essentially different software for, more or less, the same purpose: content aggregation with similar features to Reddit. Kbin also has microblogging features (Lemmy doesn’t). They both use the same protocol ActivityPub so they can see and talk to each other.

    From what I understand, Kbin and Lemmy are two different projects.

    They both use the same protocol (ActivityPub), so they can talk to each other.

    The main difference is that Kbin also has what’s called “Microblogging”, which is what you know from Twitter for example.
