Discussion thread for the latest episode of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury
There was a lot to like in this episode.
Suletta and Guel having their final(?) duel fencing was a great callback to Amuro and Char. I love Guel, but my man is a born loser.
Suletta and Miorine’s heart-to-heart was really well done. Both of them are moving out from the shadow of their parents and doing what they want to do, moving forward because it’s their choice. It’s good stuff. Sad nightgown Miorine was also pathetically cute. I’m going to be so crushed when these two don’t get a happy ending.
Calibarn is absolutely fantastic, though all of the permet effects in that battle really struggled with the bitrate of my stream. Love the witch imagery with Calibarn riding in on a giant laser broomstick.
Only a few episodes left, I’m not ready for this show to be over. Really hope we get another season or a sequel series.
I’m actually starting to think that another season is fairly likely. There’s two episodes left in this season and we’re already halfway into the main battle between Suletta and Prospera. I don’t see how they can stretch that conflict out for two more episodes, which leads me to believe that it’ll be resolved next week with the following episode being focused on setting up next season.
The fact that they dropped another Notrette reference in this ep with only 2 more episodes left really has me expecting another season. Like come on, secret messages encoded in tomato DNA!
EDIT: and yes the gundbroom is fucking great
Me everytime it cuts to Sueletta heavy breathing
Anybody else feels like the show is moving really fast? Like I feel like 2 episodes worth of stuff just happened in a single episode, not that I don’t love it, I just wish the make up conversation was a bit more drawn out, maybe that’s just me being greedy idk 🤷♂️.
quiet zero looks like something out of homeworld, except less colorful i guess.
a swordfight in a gundam series and a character is wearing all red and another all white, don’t think i’ve ever seen that before… never ever… (suppose it also kinda does double duty and makes the utena ties more explicit).
i guess the turn on the series’s phrase “even if there’s nothing to gain, i have to move forward” makes suletta’s character growth blatantly obvious if somehow anybody missed it (there’s also suletta thanking belmeria for letting her do things out of her volition).
hey, the lagrange naming of large habitations are back from other gundam series. the orchestral dropin when suletta began her attack with caliburn kinda reminded me of those sawano moments in unicorn.
Pretty obvious why the missile attack at the beginning of this episode failed. The missiles all flew in a straight line. Anyone who knows anything about anime knows that that’ll never work.
I have just understand one thing: Quiet Zero is not the classic space station for the final battle: it’s a mobile armor. It needs Aerial to properly function just like the raiser needs the 00. Soooo Gundam Factory, Quiet Zero RG, when? :). Oh and of course Calibarn is gorgeous, I want that kit too…
Yeah I’m sold on a Calibarn HG kit as soon as they announce it - there’s a WFM kit just labeled “New Item B” that they still haven’t officially unveiled, so I’m assuming it’ll be that.
Stoked for the HG Calibarn …but it hasn’t been announced yet o.o
Oh my, what an episode. Nice callback with the fencing duel, Guel even wearing red. The Unicorn fly-in by Suletta in the Calibarn. The giant laser broom. Now I don’t know which HG kit from this show I want! I wanted the Aerial Rebuild, then the Pharact, the Darilbalde and now the Calibarn. Too bad both shelf space and money are limited, or else I’d get all of them.
Also, since nobody else mentioned, who here remembered the other yuri anime about a Witch riding a cannon? Shuumatsu no Izetta? That made me happy.
The breakneck pace of this season starts to remind me of F91 - everything feels like it could have used some extra time.
Guel on Earth next to a could-be-mentor character? Ain’t no time for that, he’s just teleported back to space.
Dawn of Fold on the run, the suffering of earthians? Sorry, can’t show that too much, need to rush back to the plot!
School blown up? No time to explore the lasting effects, need to be back to action! It’s such a shame because there’s so much to this setting, I feel this could have been a truly historic Gundam almost on the level of MSG or Seed. If only they had 50 eps…
They might get more episodes to explore the situation on Earth after they are done dealing with Charmom. At least that’s what I hope for. Give us 25 more episodes!
Yes, more spacian/earthian politics plz.
