Please take a few minutes to introduce yourself here. Like many, I am someone who was active on both /r/diabetes and /r/diabetes_t1 over on Reddit and am hoping to recreate some semblance of a community here. I’ve been a T1 since 1983 and am currently using the Omnipod and Dexcom G7 with DIY Loop. Diabetes has definitely been a struggle for me at times, but I am really fortunate that I’ve been able to access such amazing technology.

So who else is here?

    Hi,

I discovered reddit, r/diabetes_t1 and my disease in 2014. I was a lurker all this time but learned so much from the subreddit.

    Now I’m a refugee too !

Hoping this community will help others as r/diabetes_t1 did for me

Welcome! Hopefully people will trickle over. I’ve loved the diabetes community over on Reddit but I can’t go back there given the state of things. Hoping we can recreate something similar here.

I’ve learnt quite a bit from the community (despite being diabetic for nearly 30 years). The handiest thing the subreddit had when I chanced upon it was the Build-a-Dexcom app, it saved me a lot of frustration given my new phone wasn’t supported.

Thanks for setting it up! I’m a major lurker, here and on reddit, but I am T1D and I’d like to have a community here on Lemmy, so I guess I need to contribute to make that happen!

I’ve been living with T1 since 2007, diagnosed as an adult and feel very fortunate for that I didn’t have to deal with this bullshit while growing up.

I’ve been using Medtronic pumps for 12 of those years, CGM on and off, depending sensor costs. I’m about to start using the 780g and the new no calibration CGM sensors.

Also a Reddit refugee. Been T1 for 64 years since 1959, on MDI and finger pricks. Where I live CGM’s are not subsidised, and the cost is too much for me. I keep very stable and log every blood test. My daily average for the past 3 months is 132 (7.3) determined from 6-7 tests/day. Due for a HbA1c check soon. I calculate my expected HbA1c from the test values, it’s very close most times.

Thanks. I never posted much at “the old place”, but did make great friendships with a couple of T1’s on there, hopefully we’ll be able to continue, though I guess it depends on what happens on/after July 1.

Welcome! I made a post today on r/diabetes_t1 to help direct people here. Hopefully that will help give people the option of coming together outside of Reddit.

Just tried to post a new thread, but it never gets posted. Have tried using the Memmy app, also web browser. Trying a comment here to see if that works.

Edit: Well yes, that worked. Will try a new post again.

Edit 2: I still can’t create a new post, it just sits there, never completing.

My son was diagnosed at 7 years old in April of 2022. He uses a dexcom g6 and MDI with the inpen. He has no interest in a pump, yet. Been doing pretty decent considering, last A1C was 5.8. Good to be here since I loved the t1 community on reddit.

Hi all! I was diagnosed with LADA a few weeks ago. My sugars float between the mid 80s and 1-teens with diet and exercise, but who knows how long that will last. Trying to learn as much as I can.
