I’ve been on Lemmy and Mastodon for a little while but still not super active on either, and haven’t really kept up with fediverse stuff as a whole.
With that said, I’m interested, what are you using, how are you using it, and what are you using it on? Do you have a bunch of accounts per platform? Do you try use one account across everything as much as you can?
I’ll go first with something of a template that might make responding easier for people:
EDIT: Apologies for the formatting, it seems like some of the markdown stuff is broken/very different to any other markdown formatting I’ve used and this is the best I can do. Hope it’s legible enough.

Mastodon
-
Accounts: 2 — an anonymous one that I occasionally post from (on an NZ instance) and one under my real name that I basically just use to save my name as a handle (on mastodon.social, cos it seems like the one most likely to endure all things)
-
Apps: Ice Cubes, Mammoth — I have both accounts on both apps, I like each for different reasons. Ice Cubes is super customisable and open, Mammoth is pretty.
-
Uses: Following some podcast hosts, keeping up with local news.
Lemmy
-
Accounts: 1 — just this one I’m posting from.
-
Apps: Memmy and Mlem. I was a long-time Apollo user and have been seeking out a Lemmy app with that level of polish. Nothing really feels quite the same, but I’m sure with time one of them will get there.
-
Uses: Trying to replace Reddit as a discussion board for a bunch of topics I my real-world friends aren’t as interested in, and for keeping up with tech news.
Pixelfed
-
Accounts: 1 — under my real name.
-
Apps: 0 at the moment. I used the Pixelfed test flight app for a while, but it seemed to be hurting my battery life. When it gets a proper app store release, I’ll probably grab it again if nothing else comes along.
-
Uses: Trying to make it as much of an old-Instagram replacement as possible.
Now it’s your turn. What other platforms are you on, how are you using them, etc.

social media that focuses on displaying your personal image is a scourge on humanity
I get what you’re saying, but I think that’s kinda reductive. When I see a picture on Facebook of my uncle on his dirt bike all smiles after winning a race, I think that’s a positive and fruitful use of social media.
And personally, I like sharing a picture of a cosplay I made, hopefully to help someone else who might be on a similar creative path. Or at least to discuss creative processes.
I guess this is my actkually moment, but I think your assessment is off.
I agree on the Twitter-style social media thing. I almost never used Twitter in all the years it existed, so I also don’t really post on Mastodon much. I used Instagram to share photography with friends/family overseas and so Pixelfed could potentially be of value to me, but I understand not using it if you never used Insta in the first place.
As for Lemmy/Reddit, I think the quality of content heavily depends on what your interests are. There’s plenty of good content for certain subjects (e.g. tech stuff) but I find Lemmy is sorely lacking in other areas, and so you tend to lose out on some of the diversity of opinion that made Reddit so good (or at least good to me). That’s largely been my issue with Lemmy overall and I think why I don’t use it as much as I used to use Reddit — a lot of the stuff just isn’t there yet, or if there is a community there might only be like 3 people posting.
I agree with you about Lemmy content. Tbh it might be an unpopular opinion but I also miss the diversity of the meme shitposting on Reddit because sometimes it was nice to just scroll and look at dumb shit. Lemmy in general has more involved content, which is great and high quality, but sometimes just missing what I’m craving.
I do really appreciate how much more LGBTQ+ friendly Lemmy is though. Reddit was getting grossly transphobic and I’m not trans but I ain’t about that life.
I don’t necessarily miss the memes, and a lot of the jokes would get repeated to death because everyone wanted their chance to say them, but I do find some of the Lemmy communities I follow can be kinda self-serious at times. I guess with a larger audience (Reddit), there was just more room for a joke or meme to land without derailing the thread or annoying people.

I have an account on Firefish (lethallava.land) and here, on Lemmy (sopuli.xyz)
I access Lemmy through Eternity on my Android Phone
I access Firefish only trough my PC or work PC
accessed from firefox and brave on arch linux, apps on android
lemmy: accounts: 9, each on different instance, but only 3 am logged in, apps: Boost, Jerboa
mbin: accounts: 1, official, i barely do microblogging, i just want to follow users, lemmy dosn’t support it, so I use mbin for that, previosly used mastodon and firefish, but both are too similar to twitter, i hate twitter’s weird structure, also hashtags are most stupid thing ever, i feel like mbin/kbin is somehow better for reading posts and comments
I host my own one user instances of: Mastodon, Lemmy, PeerTube, I access them from Linux Firefox on the laptop and Sync on Android.
I just released a video about it: https://tube.jeena.net/w/nivehRx8J7ZwujfS2oCoPC
Cool, I’ll give that a watch when I get a chance. Thanks for sharing.
Do you have a bunch of accounts per platform?
Yes.
Do you try use one account across everything as much as you can?
Yes. The others are backups… mostly.
Apps: I just use the “default” (Jerboa).
What platforms are you on? Anything outside of Mastodon and Lemmy?
Reddit, but that’s about it.
Had a few FB accounts as well, but all of them are gone now.

I have an iPad that I use Mona with. Fedi web clients tend to suck on iOS. On the desktop I use whatever default web client there is, or Elk in the case of Mastodon.
I don’t really use Lemmy enough to warrant using an app for it.
Ooh, I’d never heard of Elk before. Just checked it out and it’s really nice — might have to make it my web client now. Thank for sharing!
I’ve never used mastodon. What I need to know is: am I missing out on Star Trek memes by not using it?
https://nerdculture.de/@ShadowPlay/111518240125558311
Mastodon is 70%+ of all activitypub posting. It’s got a lot more content due to its format. It’s just a different experience? Sometimes overwhelming, but then you just look at #mosstodon or #catsofmastodon or #fungiverse and life is better.
Haha, unfortunately I’m not much of a Star Trek fan so I can’t answer that one.

I think that’s it. I did have a PeerTube account but the instance it was on closed down, and I haven’t bothered to make a new one elsewhere.
Damn, you’re deep into the fediverse. Thanks for sharing.

Lemmy: Presently using one account (this one). Have another as backup. Access on android using mostly Eternity and now since the latest update, Voyager because I’m loving scaled sort. Access on Windows PC using Voyager, alexandrite and lemmy ui in browser if I need to access account settings.
Mastodon: one account only, semi-anonymous. Access on android using Moshidon and on PC using Elk. Use the Mastodon ui only if I need to access account settings. I mostly use Mastodon for posting whatever I find interesting and occasionally browse by hashtags as per my mood.
Bookwyrm: one account, no app. Trying to make this a goodreads alternative for myself.
