This is a rant post and I apologize but I had to talk about this. Most subs are coming back online and not saying ANYTHING about the next steps. Only a handful of subs are going indefinite. I checked the front page for the first time today after leaving the a couple hours before the day of the blackout and what do I see? Subs are up, and comments and upvotes are up to the general average before the blackout.

I checked r/gaming to see their recent post (WHICH HAS OVER 68k UPVOTES), and I see a comment with over 500 upvotes saying in a nutshell, “You guys need to calm down, they’re a company and need to make money”.

Along with a couple other comments saying similar things. Are you fucking serious? You can’t even have the fucking balls to say, “This is a company that has consistently screwed over its users and I need to take a stand and quit my addiction”? You’re just gonna sit and do nothing? Fuck you. You’re no fucking better than u/spez. You’re all a bunch of fucking hypocritical liars for shitting on spez and the admins while talking about how you’re “done” with Reddit and you won’t support this.

Go touch grass you fucking addicted cowards. I’m glad I made the switch to Lemmy if it means I don’t have to interact with dumbfucks like you.

my expectations weren’t very high, given how the twitter exodus played out, seeing some of the people who made very bold statements about never coming back… coming back… and subscribing to twitter blue.

you’re never going to take down a giant like reddit, or twitter, or facebook, or whatever, in one swift blow. they’re probably going to get through this. and your average social media user doesn’t want to bring down the status quo, they just want to look at funny pictures of dogs. and that’s fine. the real victory to be had is showing people that things can be done differently. enough people will stay on fedi servers to keep a community going, and by the time the next bunch of disgruntled posters come along there will be more content to keep them engaged

The netflix password thing too. A lot of bold statements about deleting, but Netflix saw a massive boost in accounts created.

yeah that one annoyed me especially as the only reason netflix ever made money was because they won the war of convenience against torrent sites.

I cancelled my $20 sub when they announced. All these companies have decided to cut investment in improvements/content and squeeze customers who like crap made out of cake fondant

And better tools to keep them moderated. The migration has proved that Lemmy isn’t ready, but is headed the right way. I’ve found my new internet hangout and am good leaving reddit behind. Not everyone’s to be. Everyone gets to be at their own comfort level.
