Now that the Maharlika fund bill is waiting for the president’s signature. Was curious what c/Philippines think of it in general. Personally I don’t support it, it feels like we sign on something very sketchy it has pork barrel-ish feel to it. I feel concern for the banks e.g. Landbank who will be forced to invest which risk government employees source of salary. I don’t understand why they want it now, when we are debt ridden.

I have no idea why the president (I don’t care if it’s BBM or Raul Roco) considers a sovereign wealth fund urgent, so I’m inclined to oppose it on that reason alone.

Another major factor as to why I’m against is that, historically, we haven’t really punished corruption too well. Kaya despite these safeguards Tulfo and Padilla have naively tucked in (including Risa and Koko kahit di sila in favor), it will never put my mind at ease.

Feel ko down the line, someone will be revealed to be raiding the coffers with some big names benefiting, but the only one who goes to jail is the no-name accountant.

Di ba magiinvest ka o magtatake ka ng risks kapag may sobra kang pera? Di ba dami pa nga nating utang?

And the people who are pushing or voted for this cannot even explain their reasons confidently. Ang bilis pang ipinasa.

With shady leaders, how can we support something like this?

I just had a discussion regarding the bill with a relative who works in the senate. Ang hirap daw i-oppose ng bill kasi majority of the people in the government right now are supporting it. May amendments pa naman daw na gagawin before the next hearing in July but I don’t think it’s a guarantee that the money will be used in an honest way.

I asked about the status of SOGIE and Divorce Bill and they said malabo daw pumasa kasi super conservative ng current lawmakers and decision-makers. We can only dream of progress for now :((

the politicians supporting it only want an additional avenue of padulas lol

whereas the pinoys supporting it want an SWF bc they think it will be like SG’s Temasek. Those fuckers would probably even support an ethnic ratio if a politician came up with one.
