As should teachers and staff receive Orange Heart medals as part of their retirement if they are victims of a school shooting.

What would be the point? Would society give them special treatment? First pick at colleges? Extra retirement benefits?

I acknowledge school shootings as a unique and extreme trauma, but lots of kids are subject to situations that cause educational delays. Do kids whose parents or siblings die from other ways get special stickers? Kids who have suffered abuse or neglect?

It would do two things off the bat. It would add a direct expense to the government that could be mitigated by actually doing something to solve the problem, and it would make the extent of the problem much more visible than it currently is.

Not saying I think it is a good idea, there are better ways to do each of those things, but it could have some benefits.
