Installed latest image of Lemmy because it should fix some performance issues. Let’s see if it improves some stuff.
The instance seems a bit snappier. Listing and browsing seems better. Replies also seems to be posting quicker, though new post still seems to be taking same amount of time.
Thanks for the update!
Hmm yes I’m still not happy with response times for posting. But hey. Growing pains.
Yeah, it’s expected. Don’t worry about it. I am sure it will be sorted out soon-ish.
Lemmy is finally getting enough traffic and users that the performance issues are becoming obvious. It’s a big milestone for software devs when their software reach that point.
I’ve been harping about decentralization for a while, I’ve been working on self hosting stuff to pull my data away from Google etc. I’m glad to see some other sectors start to work towards something similar.
IMO It was only a matter of time, with the inevitable power plays that come with some company having unchecked power over everything. Even mods get blind with power once a group hits X membership. It’s nuts.
testy test
EDIT: Seems my post time has been ~halved from ~10 sec to ~4-5
Still not good. But better. Baby steps.
No complaints here, friend. :)
The footer still shows the old versions, by the way. It does feel snappier than earlier for sure.
I’m setting up my own instance to mess around with as well. I’ve got it running via Docker. The SSL setup was a pain, not really documented well. Also pictrs is giving me issues complaining about DB access.
The redirect is tricky and works in some browsers, but not others.
Edit: save took about 10 seconds, which is better than 20-30 seconds!
Edit 2: the footer shows the updated versions, now.
I run it in Docker too. The slowness is especially with larger communities…
And another brief restart to change a setting…
