With Apollo shutting down officially I’d like to post something to the pop communities of Reddit. I don’t want to come off as spammy - but more of a “Hey, we have an alternative over here and you are welcome to join.”

Most popheads/swifities so far have replied with “Why, it doesn’t change how I use it” and I’m trying to figure out some ways to make the Reddit change hit home a bit for them specifically.

Anyone want to give some examples of what I should say/post? I’ll link the post I have in the sidebar to help those who may want to join, and I’m expanding the server a bit today just to hopefully handle an influx.

In addition, any other subreddits I’d need to post to?

Edit: Posts are live -

Waiting on Moderator approval on the TaylorSwift one. Anywhere else?

Edit: Moderators removed the PopHeads post saying it was off topic

Thanks - @scrubbles

What I like about this place is that it has good vibes. Nice people, in a small community, happy to be together. So you can tell them I said that lol. IDK. People are coming. This place is growing by the minute. I don’t know anything about making a viral marketing campaign but it couldn’t hurt to tell people directly what you like about it here and then ask them to try.

Thanks, I hope to convey that too. I try to keep it very “if you want to, I’m not trying to force you or anything, just letting you know it’s here” and the couple of times I have I still get those random comments saying “why would you want to leave Reddit this whole thing is stupid anyway” oh okay

Sorry to see that your post has been removed, have you tried posting it in the daily thread?

as far as reddit - for a lot of people ‘they’re coming’ is abstract and ‘they’re here’ is the only driver to action. this is a case where it’s good to be in the back of people’s memory, and it’s a matter of waiting for them to hit pain tolerance. for other concepts, like climate change, waiting for ‘they’re here’ is a more serious dilemma

are there any existing lemmy communities that are like-minded where we can evangelise and have it not be just you? i see a lot of music communities, but they’re either for makers or seemingly populated by, well, not people like us

I’ve tried to post in every Music community I’ve found that we’re here, I think most of them know about us, while also trying not to be spammy. I know I’ve posted to music at both lemmy.ml and beehaw.org, there’s a couple communities on the sidebar that I chatted with the mods directly on and I think we have a symbolic “my link is on yours if yours is on mine to help spread the word”.

I think awareness that we exist is the biggest thing, not “beating you over your head” that we’re here but for new users especially, they discover !music it’d be nice for them to see we’re here too. I’m hoping that the admins see my request for /c/TaylorSwift over on lemmy and I’ll direct more people here after that
