Sorry for the extended downtime, I messed up when attempting to copy over the media. I should have just rsync’d it to begin with, rather than attempting to compress it first.
Anyways, everything looks to be working, but it may take a bit for DNS to be updated for everyone.
Let me know if you have any issues!
It seems like all (almost all?) lemmy instances opt for a VPS over a dedicated server. Is there any reason behind this besides cost? Just looking at ovh/kimisurfi etc and they have some reasonably priced dedicated hardware.
at least for me it was mostly cost, and the ability to easily scale up if necessary.
i’ve also looked at the dedi boxes at ovh and they are always on option depending on how much things grow.
Hey, thanks for your effort! You’re great! 👍
thank you for doing this work 🙂🙏
What kind of resources do you currently have allocated to running this instance? @smorks@lemmy.ca
it’s currently running on a 4 CPU 2 GB vps. should do the trick for now.
Works great for me. Thanks so much for your efforts
Ah, thanks I was wondering what was going on.
I’ve been having trouble connecting to communities such as https://lemmy.ca/c/support@beehaw.org that gives 404. I made a post about it in lemmy.ca support. Do you have any clue what’s happening to cause that?
i responded in that support post. sorry I didn’t see it sooner, I must have hit the Unsubscribe button accidentally at some point.
Working well so far. What caused the migration? Resource constraints? The DNS took a while but its all good now.
just wanted to move to a more economical hosting company. been meaning to do it for a while, but figured I should do it since we’re starting to see some growth.
Is it a Canadian hosting company?
yes, i’m currently using lunanode. i’ve used them in the past, and like their feature set and their pricing seems fair.
How long have you been running an instance? How much of your time does it take up?
i’ve been running this instance since Jan/Feb 2022. @kinetix@lemmy.ca ran it before me for about 2 years I believe?
so far, it doesn’t take up much of my time. i get very few reports to deal with, and upgrading/maintenance is quick and easy.
in the past few days, it’s been mostly going through new user applications, but that’s quick and easy too.
if we continue to grow, i will probably be looking for some help with administering this instance, as i’m guessing it will become too much for one person to handle.
