In short, a 317 pages of guided explanations. In fact much of the book explains how to use the help system. In no way does the author attempt to teach all of emacs.
For me, it was easier to read the book than the manual. When manual is designed to cover everything equally, the book focuses on the immediate experience of a newbie first. Basically, it’s a guided introduction that does this job very well. Also, IMHO, it’s a joy to read.
