Not gonna lie, I stopped watching YouTube when I eat and instead watch TV shows, movies, or anime. It’s a lot easier to find what I wanna watch when I can just pick the next episode in whatever series I’m watching. There’s so much slop on YouTube these days it’s almost not even worth it unless they are a creator i already know about.
This is what I do to. I just pirate seasons of shows I want to watch and do 1 or 2 episodes a night. I got into a bit of a drought a while back where I ran out of things that interested me but I’ve got a bit of a backlog built up now.
my media ‘backlog’ is even bigger than my steam/epic games one.
Taskmaster is a great British TV show where comedians are set funny tasks. It’s great fun, free on YouTube (at least in the U.S.), and there are very good versions from other countries on the same YT channel. New Zealand is particularly good. US was not. /c/taskmaster@feddit.uk https://www.youtube.com/taskmaster
Primitive Technology is the channel of John Plant, an Australian who builds mud huts and smelts iron ore and stuff with only stone-age tools. there’s no narration or talking, but turn on the captions for explanations of what he’s doing. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAL3JXZSzSm8AlZyD3nQdBA
Project Binky (in colour!) is a YT channel of two British guys in a shed building a Mini Cooper into a rally car. I’ve been watching the channel for eleven years and they just drove the car for the first time! They make almost everything from scratch, and it’s really interesting to watch such creative and capable people. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHvBHWBzzB7NyU5tIiEZHBg
Edit to add Uri Tuchman. He’s an incredible artist and unserious inventor. He makes beautiful, sometimes stupid stuff like a fried egg out of metal, his own engraving tools, and an automation that taps its finger. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHsqqRjziUaMwZgQZHw-n1w
Yes, Yes, and Yes.
Clicksprings antikythra mechanism series is a fantastic deep dive into ancient Hellenic engineering, tool making, and manufacturing. He covers period accurate methods and tools, and constructs the entire thing using the same tools and techniques the original designer would have used.
For reference, he’s an Australian clockmaker, so the antikythra mechanism is kind of a masterpiece he’s been working on for a long time. His custom made grandfather clock was another good one to watch if you need more.
That sounds way the heck up my alley. Thank you!
Somehow my algorithm got fixated on Gundam content. Which technically is correct, but I don’t want to watch that shit because I’ll end up buying model kits. Despite not clicking on them my feed is like 50% that and 50% animal videos that I also don’t watch. I just clear my browser to reset it every few weeks. I wonder what it’s going to decide I should be interested in this time…
My feed is concentrated on getting me to buy Gundam kits, controllers, and expensive emulator handhelds
I’ve somehow kept my feed clear of Gundam content…I have enough of a backlog of kits as-is
Been watching a lot of Nebula lately which caters perfectly to the long-form mealtime format
I just listen to my audiobooks during my lunch break.
Overly sarcastic productions
OK, let me introduce you to hundreds of hours of entertainment: https://www.youtube.com/@LegendsofAvantris
D20 is good, Critical Role is good, but this, is something special to me. I love this crew.
Welp…color me interested. I’ve enjoyed both D20 and CR for years now but haven’t heard of this new show.
No need to use it, plenty of other good options that aren’t poopy and evil.
