Carrom looks really fun though it would be hard to pass over getting a Crokinole board instead.

For most people Crokinole is probably a better bet, Carrom has more of a learning curve whereas a Crokinole board can easily become the focus of a party of mostly people who have never played Crokinole.
Despite that, Carrom just seems more interesting to me in the variations of possible plays and positions of pieces on the board.
