And how does it compare to morphine, if you know?

This made me feel warm and cozy and happy just from reading it… It’s that rare feeling, I know how it feels but I can’t remember the last time I felt it. I’ve never tried any opioids though

That description kind of reminds me of meditation. Just practicing contentment. I wish I could just turn it on, on days that it is hard to keep going. Snorting heroin or smoking opium sounds dangerous.

Edit: shit now I’m reading about burrows on Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_S./_Burroughs

Edit 2: he is the only public “old” junkie I know of.

The thing about opiates is they don’t make you feel high they make you feel happy. They dull pain.

Way back when I had a phase of a few months where it was all I would do in my spare time, and was increasingly making spare time to lay in bed and smoke. It just made everything nice, soft and floaty - including living in a crappy flat with a crazy and annoying flatmate (who supplied, and became less annoying after a few hits) and their dog. Luckily they moved out and I had no other source, 'cause I think that could’ve well been the end of my life/progress. I understood the nastiness of the Opium Wars at that point.

Morphine I think is a lot stronger? Only tried a tab once from a friend, who later OD’d (RIP). I had to keep getting up to go throw up but everything was fucking perfect. Like a mind-blowingly pleasant physical feeling.

Yeah opioids are dangerous, best to avoid.

It was, a strange and unfulfilling experience.

I smoked weed daily during that period.

I was hiking in Thailand and these guys showed up with the pipe and stuff. I paid for a pipe, nothing. Paid for another, nothing. Paid for a third and still nothing.

A friend i was with said he was feeling it. A floaty feeling. The guys with the pipe, and my friend, and me all decided that I shouldn’t keep going because it might all hit me really quick. We had to hike the next day so I didnt want to be all fucked up.

Later I smoked a little weed and it felt different, more floaty.

In summary I was expecting something more dramatic. I would describe it more like taking the regular dose of oxycontin - a bit tired but not “an experience”.

I loved it. Will never forget it. Very much like morphine but not as strong, and the comedown was much easier-- just itchy, really. One day I’ll grow my own poppies and smoke it from time to time.

Yes, a hundred years ago. First time in a hookah, a couple of times after under a glass. It’s just a dreamy state of euphoria. Fortunately I didn’t do it enough to get addicted, but I’ve known people who are almost instantly addicted and move on to heroin, if they can’t get raw opium, and it escalates quickly into banging. That’s not pretty.

Chill if you’ve ever taken codine its like that AFAIK codine is the psychoactive chemical in opium.
