But what reason could China possibly have to side against him?
Him as in Trump? That operates under the assumptions that Trump could be trusted or that Trump is competent. Neither are true, and this conflict is beneficial to China whose influence was wavering with the uprising that Trump halted by polarizing the entire population of Iran against a common enemy.
