Power in the age of aviation always boils down to airlift capability in one way or another, and the KC-390 is symbolic of a genuinely more multipolar world where countries like Brazil have arisen as global powers.

This type of aircraft can be used for disaster response, movement of critical military materials and personnel, air drop of supplies and troops, launch of a MASSIVE salvo of palletized missiles and drones (aka Rapid Dragon), arctic research, search and rescue, Anti-Submarine and maritime patrol duty …to name a few capabilities.

Yes this doesn’t look like a fearsome weapon, but it is far more fearsome than any weapon that directly kills because this is a weapon of logistics.

Even more strategically an aircraft like the KC-390 would make a perfect platform for an airborne radar like an AWACS system, which is undoubtedly the most powerful military role to use an aircraft for.
