Even the one guy I know who’s a huge AI fanboi is beginning to admit it’s a terrible place to go for information. Even he realizes that the chatbot constantly lies to you and you can’t trust it.

What good is a source you can never trust?

But they do excel at plenty of other tasks

Eh… They do a middling, somewhat passable job at a few tasks. I wouldn’t exactly say they excel at any one thing in particular, much less ‘plenty’ of things.

I’d say they absolutely excel at a few areas, such as complex searches, building efficient summaries, and areas where hallucination is desirable, such as story-building and imagining art.

Outside of those few areas though, I agree that there are many potholes on the road.

I’ve found that GPT5.3 is excellent when I want to do a search where it needs to be explained in several sentences. I’ve found it quite impressive in picking up the nuance and details of what I’m asking, then providing results. So far this seems to be one of the least ‘hallucinocentric’ methods of using LLM’s, so far. In other areas, it can’t be trusted worth a fig.

It can be used for that, too. 🙂

For example-- “please break down the POV’s from different news sources (right, left, fringe) on this breaking news.”
