Competence alone would make the Iran situation less clownish, but not less grotesque. I would like a baseline of non-malice as well, please. Horrific policy and atrocities are easier to fight when they come in twos and threes, not by the dozen. And when the leadership gives a flying fuck about their own popularity, if nothing else.
Competent people wouldn’t have attacked Iran in the first place. Or arbitrarily decided to shitcan the nuclear deal, piss off allies by publicly insulting them and imposing feels-based tariffs, etc.
