The 8.3-tonne AW249 Fenice — the clean-sheet attack helicopter being developed by Leonardo Helicopters for the Italian Army — is on track for qualification and first deliveries in 2027, the manufacturer says.

One change made to the design during its development is an optimized canopy, with the new design providing improved visibility for the pilot in the rear seat. The first fully-instrumented aircraft has completed this change, and the second is undergoing it.
