The NGCTR was created using a donor fuselage from a 609, and the wings Leonardo has created for it are oversized — by about one and a half times what would be required for the size of the fuselage, said Ragazzi.

The NGCTR uses General Electric CT7-2E1 engines — the same as in the Leonardo AW189. While the 609’s engines tilt along with the rotors, the NGCTR’s engines are fixed – and it uses an entirely different gearbox configuration. “You can see that you basically tilt only the prop rotors and the prop rotor gearbox,” said Ragazzi.
