A search team has discovered the wreck of a luxury steamer that sank in a Lake Michigan gale more than 150 years ago. The Lac La Belle left Milwaukee in October 1872.
The Great Lakes are home to anywhere from 6,000 to 10,000 shipwrecks, most of which remain undiscovered, according to the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Wisconsin Water Library.
It’s like the searchers aren’t even trying, sunken ships are like the main feature of the bottom at this point.
(For real tho - the corporate greed on not just building better ships to handle the bad weather that happens a few times per season, or even just directly to handle harsh winter weather, was real. They were losing a few ships evey storm.)

The great lakes are fresh water seas. Relative to the Mediterranean that’s not even that many ships on bottom
