    Depends where you’re watching it.

I was watching a different anime on Crunchyroll (and I can’t remember which one right now, sorry) and for one episode, the lyrics just did not show.

If it’s not on a popular streaming service, especially if you torrented it or whatever, you might have the benefit of fansubs, which can be really good. For example Link Click, a Chinese anime, has backward lyrics in the OP. There’s a fansub out there that actually uses reversed subtitles for the OP, and it sets the presentation leagues ahead of what you’d find on official streaming. Of course, you should support the arts that you enjoy. Just saying, there are better options out there and it’s a shame the rights holders don’t see that and use the subs on official programming, since they own it (or the rights to it) and all that. I think they just don’t care that much. And that’s a shame.

There are a few providers out there… Subscene was good but they closed. OpenSubtitles is what most people use now.

You might laugh if you’re not familiar with subtitle forms, but you want the .ass subtitles. Funny extension. It stands for “SubStation Alpha.” They were definitely being cheeky naming it that. Subtitles in the .ass format can have formatting, like .srt (SubRip Track), but can also have cool things like positioning and animation. This is important if you want to translate a sign that is moving, you can have it move with the animation.
