Hall effect joysticks and a 7350mAh battery is very impressive for this price range. I’m not that interested in android devices but this looks great for emulation.

    Username checks out.

The steam deck is really good and has better performance, but it’s way bigger, has a worse screen and a smaller battery. The pocket air is probably a better option if you’re looking for something more portable.

You are forgetting one of the main advantage of steam deck - much bigger and imo much better selection of games compared to android. All games android can emulate can also be done on steam deck so that is draw but pc games vs android games? I don’t think there is even a competition there.

This is the retrogames community. Soo I think emulation is really the goal here. Not playing pc games on steam.

So op wanting something smaller with a better screen is valid. I came to the comments thinking that oh for a little bit more you can get a steam deck so I wonder why people care. Op answered and answered well.

PS3/360 can be considered retro now, and the Deck is powerful enough to run rpcs3 and Xenia, along with Cemu and Yuzu/Ryujinx for more modern Nintendo stuff.

Is it really that retro if the games are inherently the same as today’s? Yes, yes, I know today’s games are much much better in terms of graphics, sound, AI, etc. But overall, many games are still 3D quests or 3D first person shooters.

Compared to, say, the Super Nintendo.

Seeing as there are now fully grown adults who have grown up with those consoles, I’d say yes. Was the PS1 retro 10 years ago? Was the SNES retro 14 years ago?

Good point. I hadn’t thought of it that way. When my parents talked about the things they did when they were kids, I thought “gee, this is ancient history!”

To put it into perspective I am 32 and have been emulating systems since I was at least 14 if not earlier. At this point the emulators themselves have become a form of classic gaming.

Yes and no, I couldn’t get stable frame rates on ps3 and it wasn’t enjoyable. Like my steam deck but it’s not the “end all be all”

Unless the user is mostly searching for an emulation device. For that use case, android can prove to be quite decent.

But personally, I’m on the deck team too 😁
