How do you propose that countries defend from acts of war by foreign aggressors?
Germany is occupied by a foreign power with dozens of military bases that purposefully sabotaged its energy infrastructure. Maybe Germans should defend themselves from that foreign aggressor.
Yes, they should. And what would they do to prepare that defense?
Dismantling NATO would certainly be a good start
