I look at Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) precautions.

Then I look at the preventions people do and don’t take against COVID-19 and what they consider reasonable risks.

Then I look at Biosafety Level 3 precautions again.

Then I bar the door a little harder.

@ShaulaEvans @LonelinessCorps Yep. This is what Ebola isolation looked like at least at our hospital. Back in 2014 we were one of the West Coast hospitals that would take patients and this is how we isolated. I have no idea how we would go rotor in this. 35 minutes to don and 40 to doff with supervision. Yes diapers were suggested. It was like wearing a personal sauna while in a sauna

@ShaulaEvans @LonelinessCorps It was. We stood up but never got the call thankfully and based on what we saw during the pandemic we would have run short of PPE in a few weeks.

Scary times indeed but IMHO not as scary today. Hard to believe but we have even more incompetent people in the clown cabinet and a care less attitude from the public at large.

And not to keep you up at nigh are you familiar with Operation Dark Winter? TO be fair this was weaponized smallpox BUT in today USA? who knows how fast stuff could spread.

@ShaulaEvans @LonelinessCorps As a nurse we knew the isolation / vaccination cycle pretty well. I did not see a huge difference between the Ebola and COVID in terms of how most healthcare providers responded. To be fair I am on the pediatric side and our adult colleagues got hit way way harder than we did.

As far as lessons carried forward, we never got hit with ebola and judging by the lack of prep and supply chain issues we experienced (we were reusing PPE etc) there were no lessons learned sadly from the Ebola scare. Also only a select few were trained as it was too expensive and the response was based on taking a few patients not the outbreak we saw later with COVID. From a critical care transport standpoint, we always used PPE because you just never know when picking up a kid from an ED. Cultures may not be back etc so you just assume the worst

Also even non profit hospitals have a bottom line and stocking up on PPE etc is simply not in the cards sadly.
